Modern life often pulls us off balance. This imbalance is a root cause of autoimmunity. My coaching programs are all about healing root causes.
The good news is there’s so much power in the practices offered by yoga and Ayurveda.
For the next couple months I’ll be posting about Autumn, the element that represents it, and how to antidote aggravations an excess of this element causes.
According to the ancient texts of Ayurveda, there are 3 basic forces in the natural world called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. As part of nature, these 3 forces also exist in us. The elements that represent them are earth/water, fire, and air/ether (space).
Autumn is dominant in the element of Vata, or air/ether. One main quality of this element is movement – think fall breezes through bright trees, falling leaves. erratic weather.
Modern society as a whole is dominant in Vata, as well. There’s constant movement in cars and planes, electronics, and jam-packed schedules. If the mind is agitated from all this, anxiety can be a real threat. If you have autoimmunity anxiety becomes a beast, and if left out of control, you’ll suffer on many levels.
Imbalance weakens us, leading to winter flu’s and viruses. And so, this is a very powerful time of year to start practicing lifestyle changes.
Even subtle ones can lead to profound healing, and big ones like diet modifications and a yoga practice are truly transformational.
